Amy Swafford (1)

My name is Amy Swafford. I serve students in grades K through 5 as the Early Intervention Program teacher at Robinson Elementary School in Dawsonville, GA. In this role, I instructs students in reading and math, including advanced and gifted reading for fourth and fifth grades. With over twenty years of experience, I have devoted my entire teaching career to Robinson Elementary School, where I have taught second and third grades as well as physical education. I received a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from North Georgia College and State University. I earned a Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont University. Beyond my classroom duties, I serve on Robinson’s Leadership Team and help lead the school’s Student Leadership Team and Reading Bowl Team. I was recognized as Robinson’s Teacher of the Year for the 2011-2012 academic year. I have served on many committees for my school, including Response to Intervention, Data Team for Learning, Student Events, and Wellness. I believe in the importance of building connections with my students and the school community. For the past five years, I have partnered with Humane Hearts to schedule therapy dog visits to classes throughout the school. My students have collaborated with the city of Dawsonville and the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame on special projects and they have volunteered their time to Exceptional People in the Community and Creative Enterprise. I believe that when students feel valued, supported, and engaged, they are better positioned to succeed academically and personally.
